The American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan announced Thursday that Napoleon Community Schools is breaking the law by not allowing Ehlena Fry, a 5-year old with cerebral palsy to, attend school with her mobility assistance dog.
“To force a 5-year-old girl with cerebral palsy to choose between her independence and her education is not only illegal, it is heartless,” said Michael J. Steinberg, ACLU of Michigan legal director.
The dog is medically prescribed, certified service dog who was recommended to the little girl based on her special needs.
